Happy “Elbows to Assholes” Day at Galaxy’s Edge!

The doors have now been flung wide open at Galaxy’s Edge! Get ready for thrills and chills of standing in line… in the Star Wars universe!

For a full breakdown of the new plan, check out this article over on Gizmodo!

Galaxy’s Edge is the exciting new Star Wars themed land that features one amazing ride and shopping. It’s also Disney’s Hail Mary pass to catch up to Universal’s Harry Potter lands, which set the standard for theming excellence! May the Force be with you, Disney! Godspeed!

Previously, to access the Star Wars park, you had to reserve a hotel room at one of the Disney theme parks and appear at GE at a specified date and time and only had 4 hours to explore. The four hour limitation wasn’t a huge problem, because honestly, there isn’t much to do in the park. You can build a little robot for $100. Or you can build a lightsaber for $200. Or you can shop. Or eat some street sausages. Or drink blue horchata (no lines for that one!). Or ride the one ride: Smuggler’s Run. Which admittedly does look pretty cool. (When it doesn’t break down and send you hovering over a mysterious dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Err, wha???)

The new plan is that you can just enter GE and spend as much time as you want there…

… if it isn’t already at capacity.

If it is, then you can put in a reservation and visit later in the day…

…if it isn’t also at capacity then.

No idea how they’re going to handle that. My guess? Not let any more people into GE. So, I guess it’s more accurate to say that Galaxy’s Edge is …. sort of… open… to most? But not all???

So, yeah. Disney is struggling with the demand for access to their Star Wars park. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Additionally, the park is physically a very small space. And limited in what it can offer. There are plans to expand and add a 2nd ride, next year. And Walt Disney World is also getting it’s own, much larger SW park in 2019. I’m sure they’ll learn a lot from the test run at Galaxy’s Edge and have a smoother start at WDW. Fingers crossed. That’s the park I plan to attend in 2020.

For those who DO access the park now, expect to be part of gigantic throngs of other sweaty nerds, standing, literally, “Elbows to Assholes” around you. (Now the title of this article makes sense, yeah? I am a Comedy Genius.)

Oh and if you get access to GE, please, please, please, PLEASE be nice to the folks working at the park. Those folks aren’t paid enough to handle the avalanche of angry Star Wars fans who’re upset about everything from the temparature of the green milk to lack of access to the lightsaber activity. Please be extra nice to them to help smooth over the endless complaints. Be good to your Star Wars dudes.

UPDATE: The park was full in less than 50 minutes. Yikes! Source: ScreenCrush
